Kindergarden
French-style preschool
Preschool is a school that welcomes children from the age of 3. It consists of three years of schooling: Petite Section (preschool), Moyenne Section (kindergarten), and Grande Section (first year of preschool). Enrollment in preschool implies a requirement for regular attendance. Starting in Petite Section allows for a better adaptation of students to the French education system.
In preschool, children develop the basic skills that will later guarantee a good acquisition of reading and writing.
The programs of the French preschool
The programs applied at the French International School of Sharjah are in accordance with those of the French National Education system ( link to programs ), taught in all French establishments, in France and abroad.
Preschool is the cycle of early learning; it constitutes the educational and pedagogical foundation upon which further learning is built and developed. Children must acquire a rich, organized, and comprehensible oral language there. It is through play, action, independent exploration, and experimentation that children, following their own unique path, construct their fundamental skills.
The 5 learning areas are:
- Mobilizing language in all its dimensions: learning situations aim at the acquisition of language skills (repeating words, saying sentences, expressing an opinion, etc.).
- Acting, expressing oneself, understanding through physical activity: learning situations aim at the acquisition of skills necessary for the motor and relational development of children.
- Acting, expressing oneself, understanding through artistic activities: learning situations aim at the acquisition of skills necessary for the sensory and emotional development of children.
- Acquiring the first mathematical tools: learning situations aim at the acquisition of numbers and their uses.
- Exploring the world: learning situations aim at acquiring the skills necessary to orient oneself in time and space.
